Here are the highlights of the Indian contingent from Day 3 of Paris Olympics: India had medal hopes from shooters Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta as the two were set to participate in the finals of the women’s 10m Air Rifle and men’s 10m Air Rifle respectively. However, Ramita finished 7th and Babuta finished 4th in their events.
Following the high of Day 2 where Manu Bhaker helped India clinch its first medal at the ongoing Paris Games, Day 3 was slightly disappointing for the Indian contingent. To start with shooters Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal failed to clinch medals and later in the day the men’s Archery team bowed out. Shooter Arjun Babuta buckled under pressure and finished fourth in the men’s 10m air rifle competition after coming close to winning a medal in his maiden Olympics here on Monday. Babuta shot a total of 208.4. A 9.5 in response to Croatia’s Miran Maricic’s 10.7 put paid to his hopes of finishing on the podium.
Shooter Ramita Jindal ended seventh in the final of the 10m air rifle women’s competition.Ramita, 20, shot 145.3 in a high-quality eight-women final.
A confident Manu Bhaker placed herself in contention for a second Olympic medal as she combined with Sarabjot Singh to make the bronze playoff (bronze medal match)of the 10m air pistol mixed team event. The Indians will face Korea’s Oh Ye Jin and Lee Wonho, who shot 579.
Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto are staring at an early exit after suffering their second consecutive group stage defeat in the women’s doubles badminton competition at the Paris Olympic on Monday. The Indians went down 11-21 12-21 to the world number four Japanese duo of Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida in the 48-minute Group C match.
